Cherry Blossom Festival

Jerte, Cáceres

Audioguide of the Cherry Blossom Festival

What to see in the Cherry Blossom Festival

Sometimes Nature organises festivals of its own, and when that happens, you have to be there to see it. This is the essence of the Cherry Blossom Festival, a celebration where the most important work is done by the Jerte Valley alone, in the province of Cáceres, and in 2010 it was awarded the title of Festival of National Tourist Interest. Its million and a half cherry trees are covered with little flowers that fill the landscape with white and offer a truly unforgettable sight.

The thing is that the trees have their own calendar, and every spring the date on which the Jerte wakes up changes slightly. It is usually around the middle of March or early April, and that is when a long series of festive events begin, which last for more than a month and are in line with the life cycle of the petals. The central part of this tribute to nature is the Cherry Blossom Festival itself, which takes place every year in a different village in the region.

As in any respectable festival, one of the important issues is the gastronomic experience of the region and its traditional wine cellars. But there is also no lack of concerts, sports events, open-air dances or artistic events.

After the Cherry Blossom celebration, the Rain of Petals arrives. The white disappears and gives way to the green, but if you have managed to see the Jerte Valley in its splendour, you will leave with a smile on your face and a memory for life. We guarantee it.
